HYDROCOELECTOMY

It is also known as hydrocele repair and is a surgical procedure performed to remove a fluid-filled mass in the scrotum, called a hydrocoele. Hydroceles are found in male children or adult males (usually over 40). They have no known association with a man's ethnic background or lifestyle factors.

Why do I need a Hydrocoelectomy?
It is performed to correct a hydrocele and prevent its recurrence.

How is it done?
It is a simple operation. The extent of the surgery depends on whether other factors are present. If the hydrocele is uncomplicated, an incision is made in the scrotum. If there are complications present, such as a hernia, an incision is made in the inguinal (groin) area. This approach allows repair of hernias and other complicating factors at the same time. You will be under general anesthesia for these operations.

Risks

  • Swelling for months after the surgery
  • There is a slight risk of infection
  • A chance of excessive bleeding from the surgical incision.
